Chappals
made of tyres :
This incident
happened when the Vietnamese
Revolutionary and the President of Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh visited India. Though he was President of a country, he used
chappals made from used tyres of vehicles
and his cap was made of straw.
He was involved in a violent revolution and yet he had a strong belief in the Non-Violence of Gandhi and in a
way he took pride in calling himself a disciple of Gandhi.
In a function
held in his honour, one speaker compared him with Gandhi, Ho Chi Minh did not
like this comparison. And his face exhibited his displeasure on hearing this
simily..
While replying
to the reception, he said, “ Some speakers have compared me to Gandhi, but I do
not like this comparison. Gandhi had a
grand personality, I am a pygmy before
him. I am certainly a revolutionary but
I can never be compared to Gandhi at all.”
